Dr Shazhan Amed is a paediatric endocrinologist at British Columbia Children’s Hospital in Vancouver and a clinical associate professor at the University of British Columbia. As a clinician, Dr Amed cares for children and youths with diabetes as well as those with hormone-related medical conditions. She leads a large research programme focused on improving the quality of care for children with diabetes and preventing youth-onset type 2 diabetes. She is also the founder of “Live 5-2-1-0,” an initiative that works with communities to create environments that support children in making healthy choices, with the ultimate goal of preventing childhood obesity and type 2 diabetes. She attended medical school at the University of Calgary; her paediatric residency was completed at the University of Manitoba and her endocrinology fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. She also finished an MSc in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
